Dear Scott, There are lots more funeral marches, by Beethoven (slow movements of the Eroica and of the Op.26 piano sonata, the latter reorchestrated for a play, Leonore Prohaska), Handel (Saul), Purcell (for Mary II), Wagner (Siegfried's in Götterdämmerung), Berlioz (Symphonie funèbre et triomphale), Elgar (Grania and Diarmid), etc. Wedding music has to include the march-chorus from Lohengrin.
ReplyDeleteNow, when are you going to get around to my book?
Best wishes, Paul Griffiths
Paul,
ReplyDeleteI only included those tracks from my iTunes that had the specific words "Wedding" or "Funeral" in the title. I would have many more, including those you mention, if I expanded to other languages, just like in my God post.
The book review will be posted sometime today!
